Encouraging Your Teen To Try Natural Hairstyles

Encouraging Your Teen To Try Natural Hairstyles
Happy Friday all! I hope you've had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend ahead! As you may be able to relate, when your child is young, you are most likely to be the sole hair caretaker for their hair. But as they grow older, especially during their teenage years, they can become more experimental. Do you find that your teen daughter keeps straightening her hair? Well, in this post, I
suggest a few tips to help encourage your teenager to try more natural hairstyles.

The Journey

As a parent myself, I have been the natural hair caretaker for my 14-year-old's hair. And I have seen her hair flourish throughout this time.
The experimentalism stage usually kicks in around teenage years. And if they have afro/ curly hair texture and want to achieve the straight look, the dreaded GHD type flat iron/straighteners are usually the tool used for this.

Lack of Knowledge

Unfortunately, most children using straighteners won't be using heat-protective spray. They tend to be more focused on the desired look. This means they are literally FRYING their hair. If they do choose to do this, hopefully, you can convince them to do it with less frequency, make sure they are at least using hair protectant spray prior to using straighteners - or any kind of heat! Hopefully, you can persuade them to straighten their hair, less through...

Watching a few YouTubers who have tutorials of hairstyles, such as simple twist-outs. You could even take her to a hair salon and ask the hairdresser to show her a few creative styles. You could also check out our kids protective hairstyles post for some inspiration.
My daughter has started her own YouTube channel where she shares simple advice for pre-teens and teens on how to maintain their natural hair. We also share tips on our Root2Tip hair channel
Sometimes when you show a strong-headed teen that their peers are embracing the natural texture of their hair, without damaging it, it’s all the motivation needed.
I hope these tips prove useful for helping to encourage your teen to embrace more styles with their natural texture.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I first came across this product in a glossy box a few years back and fell in love with it, so I had to come and get the full size. It makes my hair feel soooo soft, completely moistures it and is very easy to use. The spray nozzle is great and distributes a lot of product. Definitely a staple for my hair.

Amazing Product

I love it! Like to use it all over my hair before I start my LOC method. Keeps my hair moistured and protected. I like the consistency and it works well with other products.

Game changer

This product has been a game changer in my LO’s hair so far . I really do hope it has come to stay for us cause I’m really blown away by the results in just few days of use .. Thank you for an awesome product

My scalp loves it

I have sensitive scalp areas on my head. But had no issues using the product.
